Several weeks ago I had the great honor to speak at my church, CitiChurch (shout out to my CC fam!).
I spoke on happiness.
So, sit back and allow me to share this thought with you…
We are in a culture constantly searching for happiness, fulfillment, and success at any cost. We often scratch and fight our way to the top.
We want to win.
Bring on the Big house,
hot spouse,
6 figure income,
2.5 kids,
and the corner office at work!
(Of course we know that those things are not bad; however, there is a level of pressure on us all to achieve success…that often stems from selfishness)
This is what I refer to as the “The WhenThen Disease”…it is a deadly plague that has infected most of the population.
How do you know you have it?…I’m glad you asked.
You may have the WhenThen Disease if you have ever said the following:
WHEN I get married…THEN I’ll be happy.
WHEN I get a raise…THEN I’ll be happy.
WHEN I have kids…THEN I’ll be happy.
WHEN I can get a house…THEN I’ll be happy.
WHEN I can get in that school…THEN I’ll be happy.
WHEN I can graduate…THEN I’ll be happy.
It becomes a vicious cycle.
Our happiness becomes dependent on “WHEN” things happen!…but what if they never happen? Or worse yet, you lose the very thing that you strove to obtain?
We are never satisfied so we are never happy.
Allow me to help you with this thought: HAPPINESS IS NOT FOUND…IT IS CREATED.
Create it.
Abraham Lincoln said “Folks are usually as happy as they make up in their minds to be.”
Let’s decide in our minds today that we are going to be happy! Let’s not allow ourselves to get sick with the WhenThen Disease!
Acts 26:2 “I think myself happy…”
When I heard you preach this sermon, I perceived it was Spirit inspired and enjoyed the correction it brought within me! 🙂
Thx Shane! Love ya man!!
