I want to share something with you that I wish someone would have shared with me. (Unless someone did tell me, then I wish I would have listened.)
Listen more…Talk less.
I know what you’re thinking, “That’s so deep!”… “how does he come up with this stuff? ” …”he has wisdom beyond his years!” …
Okay, I know. It’s simple and it doesn’t seem to have a bite to it.
But think about it…
It seems like the people who know the most say the least and those who know the least say the most.
As I look back over my life I realize some of my biggest regrets happen to be when I said the wrong thing at the wrong time.
Not buying it yet? Okay, let me explain it this way: I love to make people laugh! That can be one of my greatest assets and my greatest liabilities. There have been a few times in my humor that I didn’t exercise wisdom to its fullest degree (that’s putting it nicely).
Learning to be quiet in a conversation is an art, especially when an off color joke pops in my head (feel free to judge).
Trust me…a cheap laugh is not worth jeopardizing your reputation.
A scripture that I often quote to myself to help me is Proverbs 10:19
“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.”
Be sensible. Talk less. Listen more.
As a charter member of the ‘say what I think and repent for it later’ club, I need to hear this frequently…I seem to ‘forget’. Lord help me to measure my words!
Well said!!!
