We are the sum total of our choices.
We all know someone whose life has been destroyed because of poor choices.
Poor health from bad eating.
The words of Pastor Andy Stanley rang true when he said, “Nobody plans to ruin their lives, just a few plan not to. ”
Few people, if any, wake up one day and say, “Today is the day I ruin my life with debt!”
It is often the steady drip of seemingly insignificant choices that lead up to those destructive moments.
The late text.
The one to many.
Connecting with the wrong people.
The compounding of those small choices eventually ends up demanding payment later. Often times our future, marriage, children, finances, and friends feel the ripple effect of those choices.
One of my favorite scriptures says:
Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
That’s the one key.
If we can keep in mind that all of our decisions move us toward or away from the life that God has for us, we can prevent potential poor choices that can destroy us.
When you’re faced with an unethical decision…choose life.
When you have to choose between telling a lie and the truth…choose life.
When you’re hurt and you don’t know what to do…choose life.
When you’re upset and want to post something negative…choose life.
We are all better when we choose life.
